Exposition/Codes :
The exposition opened sat 5 juli.
pretty crowded...
lots of people dared to enter the "coffin" and freaked with the
synth, making new, previously unheard soundscapes and discovered bugs
sourcecode:
components.sit
ps: the controller file is named "main control" and is located in "/masters"
if you own a midi keyboard, the note values that control the synths are in the
"knoppen overzicht.2" file.
Thesis :
It is a max executable. works best under os9.
LFPLI.hell.sit
"slow dynamic scripting"
Research :
midi interface
learning curve
sounddesign formats
modular synthesizers
chaotic/experimental music
tunneling
hidden areas
urban exploring/rebellion/guerrilia
alternative living
Hardware :
220x70x85cm metal box
2.5cm square pipe construction
2mm sheet steel surface
coated (black tektyl)
isolated (polystyreen)
inside plated with thin wood (painted black)
Project :
soundsystem
2x small w-bin (600w each)
2x longthrower mid (100w each)
1x high (horn)
cabin as control station/ part of speakerwall
Inspiration :
the interface of this instrument are 32 rectangular buttons
with a minimal green led display parameters so settings can be seen.
the interface is housed in a wood / aluminium box which the user is free
to move around the cabin.
there is no manual or helpfile available.
before the user can understand, he/she has to think for him/herself.
when this installation is presented, the sourcecode is available on cd.
after the exibition i will post it on this site.
Audio :
the range of audio this instrument can reach can be described
as "noise, idm, clicks, glitch and streched out to soundscapes and drones".
because the editing is rather fluid and there is no real sequencer,
this audio stream can be described as non-linear music.
the parameters can control most of the processes clearly,
but also random functions are used for the generators.
when the user discovers deeper layers of the program, it is possible
to create his/her own addons on generators/filters and choose new variations
of the working synth. hereby the user can choose from a range of scripts.
even deeper hidden is the possibility to create own scripts.
this means that the user can code the synth, making it a genuine
semi-realtime modular synthesizer.
