Menzis Grant
Menzis Health Insurer is one of the largest health insurance companies in the Netherlands, and represents more than two million policy holders. Menzis is also active in the domain of innovation in health care, in terms of technology as well as accommodation and care. The company has branches in Groningen, Zwolle and Utrecht among other places. Menzis zorg en inkomen (Menzis care and income) has realized a building with extraordinary architecture in the Euroborg neighbourhood of Groningen. On the basis of its social function, the enterprise wishes to make its connection with the City of Groningen visible and transparent. One of the instruments in this field in the establishment of a grant for students of the Academy for Fine Arts, Design and Pop Culture - MINERVA, including the FMI Masters.
A space has been reserved in the building for an artwork in the broadest sense of the term. A certain fee and a budget for material are available for the realization of the work. Each year, a competition is organized for the students, and the student selected by an expert jury is commissioned to create the proposed artwork. The winner receives a sum of 2.500,00 as a reward. The material budget amounts to 5.000,00. A personal supervisor is appointed to help implement the work.
All students of Academy Minerva who have received their foundation course diploma, as well as students studying at the FMI Masters, are entitled to apply for the grant. No distinction is made between bachelor students of Fine Arts, Design and Teacher in Fine Arts and Design, and the master programmes of the FMI.
George Verberg Grant
On 22 June 2004, the Municipal Council of Groningen established the George Verberg Grant.
The grant is intended for extremely promising, newly graduated artists in Groningen, and is oriented toward a stay in East Europe. Students and new graduates in bachelor fine art at the Academy for Fine Art, Design and Pop Culture ? MINERVA and graduates of the master at the FMI Masters can apply for the grant. The first grant was awarded in September 2005.
The George Verberg Grant was set up by the city fathers in 2004 after the departure of Mr G.H.B. Verberg as director of the NV Nederlandse GasUnie. Due to his great service to the City of Groningen and his exceptional interest in the visual arts, the Municipal Council honoured George Verberg with a grant bearing his name.
In view of the relationship between the Groningen GasUnie and the Russian Gazprom, and the extraordinary service of George Verberg in the construction of the Russian (gas) pipeline, the winner of the grant is encouraged to stay for a maximum of one year in Eastern Europe. In this context, the Board of Trustees of Academie Minerva regards the reinforcement of (artistic) ties with the Baltic States the most interesting in terms of content for the coming years.
The Grant (10,000 Euro) is funded by the Municipality and the Province of Groningen. Students and new graduates can apply for the Grant by contacting the Dean of the Academy for Fine Art, Design and Pop Culture ? MINERVA.
