Collaboration

The FMI Masters maintain structural and content-related co-operation with the Master of Fine Arts programme provided by Hunter College in New York. For the MFA Painting programme, this co-operation consists of the exchange of lecturers and students, knowledge exchange, and the organization of joint projects. Each year, on request and if their work gives reason for it, a number of students of the MFA Painting programme can spend a term in New York to participate in the Hunter College programme.
In addition, the FMI Masters maintains an exchange relationship with the Master of Fine Arts programme of the School of Design of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia (USA). Each year, a number of students may participate in this programme for a period of one month.
A visit to both universities is a part of the excursion to New York with 2nd-year students.

The study programme of MFA IME co-operates closely with the High Performance Computing & Visualization (HPC & V) department of the Rekencentrum (Computer Centre) and with the Computer Assisted Rehabilitation Environment (CAREN) laboratory, which is a section of the Institute for Human Movement Sciences. Both belong to the University of Groningen. The Rekencentrum develops extremely advanced visualization environments, including a CAVE, that are unique in the Netherlands. Students may use the facilities of the HPC & V for advanced rendering and visualization requirements.
Frequently projects/exhibitions will be organized in collaboration with Sign and NP3.
Gallery Sign is a platform for exhibition in the Fine Arts of today. NP3 is a representative media combination at the edges of experimental contemporary art.
The study programme co-operates also with STEIM (Centre for research & development of instruments & tools for performers in the electronic performance arts) in Amsterdam and with V2_ (Institute for the Unstable Media) in Rotterdam; students can, on request, participate in workshops and projects.
For Technical Support, advice and use of facilities in Sensor Technology and related areas students can visit the HIT (Hanze Institute for Sensor Technology) in Assen.
The study programme co-operates also with the Edith-Russ-Haus f?r Medienkunst in Oldenburg (Germany); artists in residence and other artists of the Edith-Russ-Haus visit the FMI regularly to give lessons or presentations; the IME students also participate in workshops at the Edith-Russ-Haus and visit their exhibitions.

Within its programme, MFA Scenography co-operates with various theatre organizations and stages in the North Netherlands, such as the Grand Theatre, NNT, Galili Dance and De Citadel in Groningen, Oerol Festival on the island of Terschelling, Tryater in Leeuwarden, and the Peer Group in the Province of Drenthe.
The programme is working on realizing an international co-operative venture with the University of Giesen in Germany.
